Wow, was I thirsty yesterday after the flight. Once through security I had enough time to stop and buy a 33 ounce bottle of water for just over $3 – ouch. I’d always been one to buy a bagel and coke or coffee so I just wrote it off to cheaper food expense – lol.
Got on the plane and had my morning apple with me for when I got hungry and also brought tea. On my airline, they already premake tea so you have to wait until after the beverage service to get hot water and the flight attendant forgot – not a big deal. I thought about ringing the call button but I wasn’t dying. I said no thanks to the prepackaged – surely HFCS filled muffin thingy and ate my beautiful Gala apple instead.
Drank most of that bottle of water on the hour drive to my parents house from the airport. Went through a ton of questions about the diet with Mom when I got to the house. Tried to explain the basics – I’m on a VLCD – 500 calories – talked about “taking” the hcg. Ididn’t mention a shot – it’s just the method of delivery – I figure only the serious ones who are thinking about it need to know. Explained hcg is the pregancy hormone and what it does in the body for the fetus and then said, we’re on a very low dose compared to pregnancy. Talked about it reseting my metabolism and hypothalmus. That’s the only thing that didn’t make sense to mom, because of the comments she made later about learning to eat sensibly and not eating too much, yada yada.
It’s ok that she doesn’t get that. She’s a long time Weight Watchers person – she took me when I was 13 and only about 10 pounds over the weight chart at the time – using todays charts I wouldn’t have even been overweight (enough said). I think so many diet programs train you that you’ll never be able to eat like a normal person does. That is one thing I so look forward to with HCG. Actually reseting my metabolism so my body handles food like it was created to.
So, things are good with Mom. Everyone is coming to eat about 3 to eat – right during the Dallas Cowboy game. I lived in the Dallas area for 14 years and I’m still a huge fan. Good thing we were playing the Jets and not a big team. I proposed to Mom that rather than eat with everyone, I go ahead and eat at noon and six like normal. She loved the idea because I wouldn’t be cooking my meals in the midst of her trying to finish up prep and because their dining room table really only seats 6 and we were trying to cram in 9. I set the table for 8 and then just pulled up a chair at the end and drank my water during their meal.
Lots of questions about the diet from everyone. Some of my parents oldest friends were there, both of my brothers, one brother’s current girlfriend and then my other brother’s ex-girlfriend, Nicole, who is both a doctor and has become a friend of the entire family.
I generally just tried to answer them without giving every detail. The doctor, Nicole, wants me to email her a copy. She’s gained some weight and is interested in looking at this both for herself and her patients. I decided, rather than try to tell her every detail in layman’s terms and possibly have things go places I didn’t want them to, to let Dr. Simeons tell her all about it.
I drank a ton of water yesterday. I knew that airline flight can dehydrate you a little bit but let me tell you, I’m estimating I drank over 150 ounces yesterday and still felt thirsty when I woke up this morning. I generally quit counting after I know I’m hitting at least 100 ounces (a gallon is 128 ounces). By 1 p.m. I knew I was 3 of my 14 ounces glasses shy of reaching that mark and so I quit counting exactly but I know I had 6-10 more refills. Plus I was feeling bloated yesterday too.
Once everyone knew I was on the diet, no one was bothered that I wasn’t eating – I explained that I couldn’t eat turkey and so everyone got that I couldn’t eat anything else that was in the spread – oh it looked and smelled amazing.
I tried to be helpful, pouring wine and helping pass things that the older ones at the table didn’t hear asked for and stuff but I found, especially helping mom before everyone arrived, that there were things I couldn’t do. She asked me to lay out the crackers with the cheese spread and I knew if I touched them that one or more were going in my mouth. I told her that and she said, no problem. That, my friends, is a miracle that she didn’t get upset over that.
All day I felt like I was battling my resolve to stick with it, but it helped that everyone knew and no one was upset or asking me to eat. I wanted to eat because I love almost everything that was prepared, but it was worth it to me to stick with this and not see a gain. Even more amazing, I saw a loss this morning.
I was a bit hungry off and on most of the day but again, it wasn’t crazy hunger and I think it was just more an emotional desire to eat than deep hunger because when I went to bed last night, it was gone.
Yesterday’s Menu
4;40 a.m. – yerba mate tea
breakfast on plane: apple
lunch: Down, Set, Chili – yum. To make it easy, I prepackaged my spices for a couple meals.
dinner: Lemon Mustard Broiled Chicken and romaine with lemon & pepper – oh my, the name sounds boring but this was so good and everyone commented on the smell. I’m making this one again. It really was so moist.
Dessert – 1/2 an organic Texas Ruby Red. There isn’t any grapefruit better – they are sweet with a little tart and so much better than the ones I’ve been getting in Kansas City. I’m loading up for the trip home.

Just found your blog and glad I did. I want to add it to my links. I have also found the Hcg diet, but via my doctor. He also has a weight loss clinic and I am doing mine through his clinic.
Read through all yours posts and was very encouraged and seems like we have a lot in common. I also have PCOS and insulin resistance…very resistant!!! I am 10 years older than you and also have 100 lbs to lose. Was more, but the past few years I have slowly lost about 35 lbs. I also now have diabetes, so I am glad you found this diet for yourself, before your insulin resistance didn’t make that turn for the worse.
It is so encouraging to read how you are sticking with the protocol. I have been doing good. Have to deviate a little, but I add a handful of peanuts when my blood sugars go to low. But otherwise I feel so much better.
Well when we get some more of this weight off, I will have to come down to Kansas City ( I live in Omaha, NE) and maybe we could do some major shopping! LOL
Will look forward to see how your journey continues and all the progress you will have!
Be Blessed!
Tracey,
We’ll both make it and we will have to shop! LOl
Glad you are doing it with the doctor, if I had the means and a protocol friendly doctor, I’d prefer to do it that way.
