I’m just back from Houston with my family at Christmas.  I didn’t follow phase 3 much while I was there.  Couldn’t eat very much but I did have carbs/starches/sugar.  The top point was 219.  I don’t see this as a normal pattern on phase 3 at all…  it was Christmas and I went with what I wanted to have, stopped when I filled up, which was always less than 1/2 of my former capacity.  I shot up to 219 early and then was slowly dropping in general – I think my body was adjusting to the addition of some starches.  Christmas eve was the worst day and there was another up blip.  Sorry I can’t give you details… weighed every morning but just didn’t feel much like obsessing over it and writing it down.

Some of you know that my dad has Alzeheimer’s and I could even see a small progression from Thanksgiving to Christmas.  There was also an incident on Christmas Eve about an hour before everyone arrived for dinner.  I walked into the kitchen and noticed my dad’s hand was slipping on the counter and he seemed to be falling.  He had also started shaking. I shouted and grabbed him to try to keep him from falling onto the counter.  We managed to get him to sit down.  We couldn’t get any straight answers out of him and he was rubbing one of his hands like it might have gone numb.  He remained dizzy and almost fell again.   He’s 6′3″ and I’m 5′5″ so it was interesting trying to grab and hold him up.  I’m waiting to hear from Mom what the doctor has said but we suspect a TIA (mini-stroke).

We are in the midst of prep for a big conference and I’m be a little surprised if I haven’t dropped another pound in the morning.  I’ll be at a hotel sharing with a couple other ladies – internet access may be spotty and I’ll be pretty busy.

I’ve gone back and forth about weighing but I may end up taking the scale.  It would be interesting to see what happens.  I’m not totally avoiding starches but not going crazy.  Had about 5 french fries with dinner, for example.  Since I’ve consistantly been adding them and my weight has dropped back down without a steak day so far, I’m just not worrying too much.  At the same time, if I weren’t going to be walking several miles at the conference each day, I probably would be a little more worried.

Another big factor for me in not following phase 3 very well has been that I’ll be going back on phase 2 in mid-January and will follow phase 3 better in future rounds.  I think the final phase 3 is the most important.

Biz – thanks for checking up on me

Lili – Hey, thanks for stopping in

  1. Michaela, that really isn’t too bad, only 3something lbs above LIW. You done great! Sorry to hear about your dad, that is sad to watch someone that was once strong and viral slowly being taken over by this disease. Give us an update when you can.

Good for you not OBSESSING about this thing. It’s not worth it. Just keep on keeping on!

  2. Hey sweetie! I couldn’ t let this day go by without you knowing how much I appreciated your support during this year!

    Hope this finds you well!

  3. Hey honey…so sorry I have not had a chance to post. Gosh I feel like a heel.
I will pray for your family….that is so scary about your Dad. In times like this it is hard to say “the right thing” but just know you are not in this alone. The Holy Spirit is always there with you….of course we are here too. If you ever need anything just ask, okay?

So I do miss ya chica….let us know how everything is going and how your Dad is doing.

    Crystal
